Injury and death occurs too frequently in the White Mountains. Also it is best to study accidents so that you don’t repeat someone else’s mistakes. This is an accident that happened to me in March, 2021. Although I am completely recovered from the leg injury, lessons were learned.

he biggest lesson for me was to climb up a trail before descending by a different route, so I know conditions. That morning, I got a ride up the Mount Washington Auto Road in the Mount Washington State Park snow cat. It was warm day. I left the summit and headed down without appreciating the snow conditions. If I had climbed up Lion Head before descending, I would have known. Here is my old column written afterward.
