On a hot and humid Monday this week, I drove up to Shelburne and climbed the 2.8-mile Scudder Trail on Mount Ingalls (2,242 feet). It is a special hike to me for a couple reasons. Four years ago, I climbed it with by friend Carl Schildkraut from New York. He had done the research and chosen it as a hike for us to do. We went slowly, which I normally don’t do by my myself, and that day in the mountains is etched in my memory.

Also, the hike itself is unique. There are outward views over the Androscoggin River Valley from several ledges on the way up. The summit is wooded, and a short trail continues down to a beautiful mountain pond or tarn called Ray’s Pond.
