The third edition of “New Hampshire’s 52 with a View, a Hiker’s Guide” by Ken MacGray is out. This list of hikes has gained great popularity, and it is good to see that many peaks with great views, lower than the 4,000-footers, are being appreciated. Filling the need for a guidebook for these peaks, the first edition of this book was released in 2019, followed by the second edition in 2020, and now, in 2025.

In 1991, a group called the Over the Hill Hikers in Sandwich compiled a list of 52 mountains with great views below 4,000 feet. The list was reviewed every 10 years, and more recently every five years. As trees grew and views changed, some peaks were added and some taken off. This has been reflected in the guidebook.
