12-2-17 Parsons Mount Washington View from Mount Jackson

I took an enjoyable early morning romp up Mount Jackson (4,052 feet) this week. It is a very popular 4,000 footer, one reason being the short stretch above timberline at the summit, making it possible to scoot to the top and back to the trees quickly on really cold and windy days.

But on Tuesday morning, the summit was essentially windless, helping me appreciate another reason it is popular — the great view. As soon as you step on the summit, the elegant southern aspect of Mount Washington rises directly in front of you to the north. I was there at 9:30 a.m., and the direct morning sun hadn’t diffused yet on the snow slopes of the Presidential Range. I think I could see every ripple in the snow.
