Back in November, I wrote a column titled “Magalloway River a Jewel,” the gist of the article was about changes to catch and release regulations for the Magalloway. N.H. Fish and Game proposed to change the existing regulation to allow bait fishing for hornpout during the summer months.
In the article, I explained how the Magalloway was the premier brook trout fishery in the state and how the proposed change could potentially endanger these trout. The issue was hotly contested. However, those that opposed the change seemed to be in the majority. The objection to the change was based on sound science that served to protect these vulnerable fish. If you followed this issue to its outcome then you know that the department changed the regulation.
