North Country Angling - Green Beauty fly

Green Beauty tied feathers wing or down wing. (STEVE ANGERS PHOTO)

Every year around this time, Lyars & Tyers fly tying chooses to honor Saint Patrick’s Day by tying flies that are green in coloration. And Kelly green. Not olive green. Not forest green. Kelly green!

There are not many things in nature on the fish-eating side that are Kelly green. Some frogs. Some caterpillars. Some egg sacks on female bugs. This means that most flies with Kelly green are attractor flies. Anglers use the bright green color to anger fish and get them to attack something that the fish doesn’t believe should be in their space.
