North Country Angler - Oatman’s Baby Brook Trout feather

Lew Oatman’s Baby Brook Trout feather wing streamer started an evolution in fly design (STEVE ANGERS PHOTO)

If there is one given in the world of angling for fish, any fish, it is that big fish eat little fish. Bait anglers use minnows and smelt as bait to catch the larger prey fish in a waterbody.

Spin casters use lures that are designed to imitate the variety of fish that a prey fish is looking to ingest. Imitations of baitfish tied with bucktail or chicken feathers are found in any serious fly angler's fly box.
