What does cycling up Mount Washington have to do with a conservation center? Many racers who signed up for this year’s 51st Mount Washington Auto Road Bicycle Hillclimb probably didn’t notice under the race title it says, “This race is hosted by and benefits Tin Mountain Conservation Center.”

How did that connection happen between MWARBH and Tin Mountain? The race has existed since 1973, but it was a low key event, mainly attended by locals, for a nominal fee. It was held in September and frequently cancelled because of weather. In the early 1990s, the race date was moved to mid-August, when weather might be more reliable.
