Memorial Day was a cyclist’s dream — warm, sunny and not wet. It was finally nice enough to go riding. My grandkids were staying over and had their bikes with them. Given the weather, I planned a bike ride for us. They had never ridden at Marshall’s Conservation Area, off West Side Road, so that was our destination.

Iver is almost 12 and Juliet is 9. Although both had some single-track experience, I planned the ride carefully to not overwhelm anyone. I avoided trails that were either too hard or no fun. Their safety was my first goal, followed closely behind with the fun factor. I had just the trail in mind that would check both boxes — holy cow!
