Some mountain bikers think it’s all about them. Wherever and however they want to ride, it’s their right to have fun and ride hard. It doesn’t matter whose land they’re on, who worked hard to build good trails or who else is using them. It’s all about their ride. They’re riding with “attitude.”

Five of us were steadily grinding up a steep trail in Vermont with multiple switchbacks to reach Kingdom Trail’s “Heaven’s Bench” a few weeks ago. Behind us, we could hear and see a group of other riders following us. We knew they wanted to pass, but the trail was too narrow and we were in mid-climb. If I had been them, I would have waited for us to finish our climb before coming up. It would make for a better experience for all of us.
