It was a crazy idea, floated around Great Glen Trails in the winter of 1995. Two guys started talking about possible warm-weather events. Why not put on a 24-hour mountain bike race?

According to Sven Cole’s July 19, 2021, VIBE article, “24 Hours of Great Glen in 21 Years,” it was a discussion Dave Mark and Paul Giblin had that cold December day. Mark was the owner of Red Jersey Bike Shop in Glen and knew a lot out bike events. Giblin, the newly appointed Mount Washington Auto Road and Great Glen Trails marketing and event coordinator, knew about event planning. The idea took root and grew.
