With Sen. Jeanne Shaheen retiring, the race to succeed her is wide open. Four-term Rep. Chris Pappas faces no serious opposition and is expected to carry the Democratic banner. On the Republican side, former Massachusetts Sen. Scott Brown is likely to be challenged by John E. Sununu, a former N.H. congressman and senator. A recent University of New Hampshire survey shows Sununu ahead of Brown, though both trail Pappas.
