There were 16 responses to last week’s Tele-Talk question — “Are you supportive of the home-sharing concept and is this something you’d be interested in doing?” — and most were supportive citing Airbnb, building costs and lack of low-income housing as reasons for home-sharing. Distrust of strangers and privacy were reasons given by those not in favor. The full selection of responses is printed here.

This doesn’t seem like something I would choose for myself, but it has been in Vermont for a long time now. It would be worth it to some folks. Limiting Airbnbs would be a good start, there are plenty of hotels in the area, with more built all the time. Limiting short-term rentals like that benefits those that live and work in the community more than it hurts the tourist economy. It allows more spaces to be opened up for long-terms leases at a more affordable price because there’s more available to the locals. I work 45 hours a week with benefits, and if I suddenly found myself single, I’d be homeless. I would not be able to afford living by myself. I’d be forced to have roommates or live so far away all my free time would be spent driving.
