There were 32 responses to last week’s Tele-Talk question — “Are you pleased with or disappointed by the Senate’s abolishing the death penalty in New Hampshire?” — with a big majority disagreeing with abolishing the death penalty saying it’s about justice and cost of paying for inmates. Those for abolishment said the state shouldn’t have the power to kill. The full selection of responses is printed here.

I am very disappointed. It does not make a lot of sense that a person or persons can take another’s life then be sentenced to three meals a day and necessary health care for the rest of their life. The death sentence was not only justice for society but for victims as well. Then again, common sense used to be the normal. Now, it’s the exception. Yes, I accept partial blame in this is not voicing my opinions to our lawmakers. Now I’m hearing rumors there are some who are in favor of changing our state motto to just say “live free.” Perhaps this would be a good time to adopt a new model that would say “New Hampshire, kill and live free.” Colin Preece, Center Conway.
