Whoop-de-do. So Trump won the Iowa caucuses, and by 51 percent. Let’s look at the figures. Only 110,000 people showed up at these caucuses. Of these only 51 percent chose Trump. So that’s a mere 56,100 Trump supporters. And this is out of Iowa’s population of 3,207,004.

The weather was terrible, something like -20 with the wind chill factor. Still, thousands of people came out to vote. Trump won by the largest margin in Iowa caucus history. The next closest was Bob Dole who won by something like 12 points. Trump's win was 30 points, and also a majority of votes cast, both impressive.

Yes, it was a small percent of the total population. But since many people never vote, those who are committed have an outsized impact. In New Hampshire next week, let's hope the turnout is good and Dean Phillips can defeat Joe Biden in the first Democratic primary in the nation.
