To the editor:

When the COVID-19 pandemic first struck, like many people my age, I was genuinely concerned. Given my age and pre-existing conditions, the virus posed a real concern for my health. I wanted to take every possible precaution. In those early days we didn’t even have the vaccine, so I tried to socially distance and avoid crowds as much as possible.
