After reading your recent article about the MSAD 72 School Board meeting and the disruptive tactics used by Denmark resident Trish Burnell, I am writing to say that I found the Graham Platner event very helpful.
I am an undecided voter and I needed more information, and I thank the school administration for scheduling this event and for being so responsive in rescheduling the time. It seems to me that the school did everything it was supposed to do and would behave in the same way for a Republican event. Just because one resident vocally and profanely objected and filmed herself doing it in order to post it afterward does not mean what she said is true.
Anger management issues should not be derailing public meetings and events. Those indulging in these displays — honestly or cynically for political use — need to control themselves. If they have issues that are based in fact and are expressed civilly in the context of a public meeting, I’m sure they would be heard. If a majority of others don’t agree with their positions, they still may not get their way; that’s democracy. Stop performing and get down to the real work in supporting our community and its civic structures.
