The problem with this discussion is there is a faulty assumption by the Left that health insurance is a human right and that society (i.e., taxpayers) should be covering the cost for everyone else. That is false. If you want free healthcare, move to Canada or Europe and you can live your socialist-paradise life there. You will get your free healthcare, but the care will be worse when you have a serious disease, and you will be paying the cost indirectly with a lower standard of living and higher overall taxes.
In a capitalist society, we provide incentives for people to work (so they are productive) and we have a basic safety net so poor people aren't starving or homeless. That's basically it.
It isn't heartless to require work, it is enabling to workers and their families. They become vested in society, not leaches off of it.
Unfortunately, having government-sponsored healthcare means costs balloon, inefficiencies abound, and novel treatments are abandoned. What gives us innovation is capitalism, not socialism. Socialism is a static model which leads to lower standards of living because people are not properly incentivized to work, innovate, and strive for more productive activities which ends up benefitting all of society, not just the wealthy.
The unintended consequence of socialism is that it incentivizes people to not work, to not innovate, and to live off government largesse, which leads to an economic dead-end.
Subsidies put in place during covid were never meant to be permanent, and had an expiration date.
Leftist, liberal, socialists need to stop pretending they were.
If the deceptive, truth twisting democrats would be as transparent and forthcoming as the current administration every citizen could see the truth and recognize that it needs to expire as wtitten and there needs to be a bipartizan plan that doesnt burden any taxpayers put onto place.
Lets get with it people, solve the problem, dont stretch it out and prolong the agony.
If ACA is so bad, why is it so popular and why can't MAGA come up with a better plan? Oh, that's right, they don't have a clue, much less a plan.
To refer to the current administration as "transparent and forthcoming" requires the removal of all knowledge of facts and their actions.
Which people do you think need to solve the problem? You mean the party that holds both Houses of Congress and the Executive Branch, but has made NO attempt to build a plan? Those people? The people you support? Yes, that's who needs to shut up about the ACA. Criticizing ACA when they have no plan exemplifies MAGA's inability to govern, only to divide.
By the way, I haven't heard anyone on the Left claim the subsidies were supposed to be permanent. What they're saying is it's inhuman to put people in a position where they can't afford basic health care. As we've seen though, MAGA has no problem with that or with starving families.
That's who you support. You should really start thinking for yourself instead of believing Trump's lies.
The proposed Republican approach to healthcare focuses on increasing patient choice, lowering costs through competition and transparency, and reducing the federal government's role through a combination of legislative actions and budgetary measures.
Key components of the Republican healthcare response include:
Expanding Patient Control and Choice: Initiatives include expanding access to Health Savings Accounts (HSAs) for individuals in plans like those offered through the Affordable Care Act (ACA) marketplaces, allowing patients to use tax-free savings for a wider range of medical care. The approach also supports patient-centered care models like Direct Primary Care (DPC), which can be paired with HSAs.
Increasing Price Transparency: A major push is to require hospitals, insurance companies, and other providers to publicly list their prices for services and treatments, empowering patients to shop for care based on cost.
Lowering Premiums and Costs: Republicans aim to lower premiums by encouraging small businesses to pool together to offer health insurance at lower prices and by allowing Americans to purchase insurance across state lines, increasing market competition.
Reducing Government Regulation and Spending: This includes efforts to block-grant Medicaid to states, giving states more control over the program and potentially implementing measures like work requirements for enrollees. The approach also involves program integrity reforms to ensure eligibility verification, aiming to save taxpayer money.
Promoting Prevention and Wellness: The proposed plan supports giving employers greater flexibility to offer financial rewards to employees who adopt healthier lifestyles.
Addressing Specific Health Issues: Recent legislative efforts have focused on measures such as making telehealth flexibilities permanent and combating the opioid crisis through bills like the SUPPORT Act.
This approach is rooted in free-market principles, contrasting with Democratic efforts that often focus on expanding public and private risk pools and offering enhanced premium tax credits through the ACA. Critics of the Republican proposals, including the Congressional Budget Office (CBO), argue that certain measures, such as the expiration of enhanced premium tax credits or cuts to Medicaid, could result in millions of people losing their health coverage or facing higher costs.
Absolutely hilarious stuff MEPD. You do realize it's all fiction, don't you? The Republicans have NO single, agreed-upon health care plan. Some Republicans may talk about the things you list, but as we know Trump controls the party, so anything other Republicans say they're interested in doesn't matter. Trump admitted he didn't have a plan during the debate with Harris and nothing has changed. Health care is a fine example of how Trump can't govern, he can only bring divisiveness and stupidity.
You are beyond delusional to think the Republicans have a cohesive health care plan.
We live in some insane world where some seem to think EVERY OTHER developed nation is doing it wrong, and ONLY the great United States of America has the right approach to healthcare!
Of course, when you look at the facts, we spend far more on our healthcare and we have fewer insured and by every measure, from infant mortality to life expectancy, we are doing worse than virtually all of the other developed nations, but those are just facts.
Other nations spend far less, cover 100% of their people and NOBODY goes bankrupt because they got sick.
The ACA wasn’t supposed to be permanent. It was supposed to start a conversation on health care, with improvements in time.
The ACA isn’t great, but is far better than what we had before. Remember when we couldn’t get health insurance if we had a pre-existing condition? It caused people to stay in jobs, even though they could get better positions, because they or someone in their family had a pre-existing condition. When children were kicked off their health plans at age 18, barely out of high school. When people would like to start their own business but couldn’t, health insurance would be too expensive. Remember when health insurance companies had to be nonprofit until Republicans allowed them to be for profit? High prices and denying claims became common.
Where are the Republicans plans for health care? They are enacting Project 2025, which will have no public anything, not schools, national parks, no infrastructure and definitely no healthcare, that includes social security and Medicare gone.
Reading this paper makes me realize just how ignorant people are about what universal healthcare really is.
The insurance industry has sure done a great job brainwashing people to protect their profit-hoarding business model.

ACA is not sustainable since it was written.
