Concerning the tragedy in Lewiston, Maine, from reports given, the alleged perpetrator was suffering from a mental illness. He told family members and medical professionals that he heard voices and that they that were denigrating him.

Because homicidal is used to describe someone who is dangerous because they are likely to kill someone. And maniac is someone who is or acts mentally unsound.
You are correct. Why can't our politicians agree that these mass shootings are a combination of not enough common sense gun legislation and mental illness. Both should be addressed and acted upon. He never should have possessed a gun after being treated for mental illness. Our system fails and continues to fail over and over again! It is time to vote for those who will do something besides argue and line their pockets!
If the laws on the books had been followed, this particular situation would have been completed avoided. We don't need more laws, we need consistent enforcement of the laws we already have. This isn't about elections. The red-flag (and in this case, yellow-flag) laws are sufficient to remove guns from people like this.
