To the editor:

I didn’t vote for Donald Trump either time, but after his narrow win in 2024 I held onto the hope that he would keep his promise to end the Russian-Ukrainian war on his first day in office.

Its a given the opposing party has always objected to any president's White House changes. Members of recent past Republican and Democrat administrations agree that holding state dinners in tents on the White House lawn and helipad with porta potties for distinguished guests in tuxedoes and gowns was an embarrassment for the most powerful nation on the planet. I wonder why prior administrations of either party did not get the ball rolling. Maybe? its because accomplishing any major construction project at the Federal level these days takes years or decades; or simply die the death of a million procedural paper cuts. No question, Trump is not doing it correctly, but he is doing it. What surprises me is Trump was not selling historic bricks from the torn down East Wing. He does not typically miss a money making opportunity, ever. The new ball room (and the Oval Office) will be just fine after all the gold leaf is removed. Anyways,...It's too late now. We have more important things to worry about, dont we?

Why is the privately funded ballroom project even an issue ? The greatest President in US history, Donald J Trump has generously provided this much needed service at absolutely no cost to the taxpayers. Is that the democrats complaint ?

That the work is being done without spending any tax payer money ???

Fiscal responsibility by a sitting president ?

Wow ! What a concept.....

There's a lot going on with this issue. First off, I don't have a problem with upgrading the facility to allow for appropriate events, which wasn't possible in the current building.

However, Trump DID say he wouldn't be touching the East wing, it was historical, it was his favorite building, blah, blah, blah, so I think some people were just taken aback because in very short order, with no process he demolished the whole thing.

Also, if you've seen the mock-up, the ballroom dwarfs the rest of the White House, so it will likely look just as tacky as Trump's gold-leafed Oval Office, so that's certainly turning some people against it as well.

The big thing to me though, is that the people that are supposedly financing it are simply (once again) buying influence with Trump. Trump had originally said he'd pay for part of it, but anyone that's watched Trump knows that won't happen.

Another big thing against it is that Trump is so focused on it while the government is shut down, his spokesperson even said it was his #1 focus. Really? People are working without pay, families are going to be missing desperately needed food assistance, and he's focused on his plaything? So on-brand for Trump.

You keep believing Trump is a great president JW; he's already been rated the worst ever by the experts that rate presidents, and now he's got the worst ratings in history, "beating" his own from his first term. Get a clue man!

Get serious. Now you're just looking for anything that Trump does to find fault with it.

If it were any other Democrat President, you'd be singing their praises for such forward thinking.

Chances are that Trump won't even be able to use the much-needed ballroom before it's finished. But all Presidents moving forward will be able to hold functions that won't require tents and porta-potties now.

If TDS needed an example, your letter would be it.
