To the editor:

In their lack of wisdom, the House Finance Division I Committee recently voted to eliminate the N.H. Commission on Aging by a 5-4 vote. One has to wonder if those who voted to abolish this commission are aware that a Commission on Aging, such as the one we have, is a requirement of the Older Americans Act for a state to receive Title III federal funds which supports Meals on Wheels, congregate dining and bus transportation services for those 60 and over. I'm going to be charitable, give them the benefit of the doubt and assume they did not know that. I can't believe they understood their vote in the affirmative would jeopardize many millions of OAA funding.
