Well, America has spoken. I spent nearly half my life (30 years) serving this country in the Navy, and I no longer recognize it. I had pledged to "defend the Constitution against all enemies, foreign and domestic." I just never thought it would be the latter that was the real threat.
“I had pledged to "defend the Constitution against all enemies, foreign and domestic." I just never thought it would be the latter that was the real threat.”
That’s interesting because I took the same oath and see things quite differently. Maybe you haven’t been paying a lot of attention, but over the last several years, I have seen the current administration severely challenge, if not outright squash, some pretty major pillars of our Constitution.
That is unless you agree with censoring voices and opinions, or using Gov’t surrogates to do the things that are clearly against the Constitution or our God-given Rights.
How about the way the DOJ has been used to try and remove the Democrats one clear challenge at the Election?
Maybe you’d like to discuss the coup d’etat against the sitting President and Democrat Candidate by his very own Party [Obama, Pelosi, Harris, et al]. Are you cool with how that happened?
How do you feel about the 2nd Amendment and all of the attempts to nullify its purpose?
Just asking, because the Oath we took wasn’t an a la carte choice of which parts of the Constitution we liked or didn’t like.
How can you say, as a defender of the Constitution that you are in favor of mass illegal immigration [15,000,000-20,000,000] or an Administration that has thrown all semblance of Immigration Law out the window to dramatically and dangerously alter the demographic landscape of our Nation or create a National Security Threat to suit it’s own political purposes. Please don’t use the “Racist Card” either. That’s just lazy and ridiculous.
Do women have fewer Rights? When did that happen? Are you talking about men calling themselves women and demolishing them in athletic competition? It can’t be abortion because the last time I looked it was not in the Constitution and has been given to the States to deal with. And they seem to be working that out just fine.
I see that you retired as a Captain, but respectfully, having attained that position of authority, I am disappointed in your lack of ability to see through the propaganda and Governmental abuses, or at the very least question what has been happening since the pandemic. What happened to your ability to be objective?
And just for the record, without getting too specific, I retired after 23 years as an SNCO.
I am relieved that we will be changing course and steering away from the rocks.
Very well said Carlene! Trump got millions of Americans to vote not only against their own economic interests, but against America's as well. For some reason they can't see through the worst con man I've ever seen.
The will look back on the current economy, prices, and availability of food with fondness. They will also regret the reduction in our ability to build things if they carry out even a fraction of their deportation plan, as it would gut the construction industry as well as the agricultural industry.
It's a shame we have to go down the toilet with them.
I'm sorry your candidate lost. But your fears are misplaced. If we look back in four years and find out that Trump became a dictator, for example, then his support will vanish and our institutions will hold firm. But contrary to the Left's January 6 narrative, Trump did not lead a coup and he will not this time either.
While Trump often talks a reckless game, his actions are more measured. I believe this is part of his "negotiating" skills. He sets out provocative positions and then negotiates something reasonable.
As for the tariffs, this is a very complex issue. First, we should recognize that the traditional Republican position that tariffs were bad has been upended. This is because we lost our manufacturing base to cheap, often illegal or unethical foreign competition. And one of the greatest mistakes was thinking that by modernizing China, we would be creating a partner. Instead, we have created a monster.
So this mistake, in hindsight, means we need to course-correct immediately. Trump's tariffs against China in his firm term was the beginning salvo, and note that Joe Biden did not cancel most of them. He kept them in place. That is very telling since Biden cancelled all of Trump's border protections.
Then, we found that China was making so much money due to the imbalance of trade and their exploitation of their own people that they could absorb the tariffs and the higher costs were not passed on to American consumers! There is no guarantee that this will happen again (it probably won't) but it is evidence that the normal rules of economics do not apply when dealing with a totalitarian economy.
It is possible that Trump and Xi will be able to work something out to make the world a safer place and to protect core American manufacturing industries and bring peace back to the world and remove the threat of war in the Pacific. That would be a reason for Trump to bend on "across the board" tariffs.
Remember that we are essentially fighting two proxy wars right now. Our armaments are getting low, our resources and stretched thin, and the world is much more dangerous now with several threats of escalation in place. Let's hope Donald Trump's dealmaking will solve these problems.
I am surprised that you have offered no criticisms of the Biden administration when dealing with Iran. Their appeasement strategy (started under Obama) has been a complete failure. And because Biden reversed Trump's hard line, Tehran was able to refund its proxies and now we have a terrible war in the Mideast with many thousands of deaths. Your military background surely recognizes Biden's feckless leadership. Did you not find the withdrawal from Afghanistan pathetic and incompetent?
The markets are going up not because of the peaceful transfer of power, but because of Trump's economic promises: increased energy, less regulation, more growth.
Still trying to spin what Trump does and says I see G.
Yes, it was an attempted overthrow of the government on January 6th. If you overturn a free and fair election to stay in power, you've overthrown the government, which is a coup.
His actions are more measured? He's a negotiator? Wow, your TDS is out of control. Nothing about Trump is measured, he has no filter, he's a small child mentally and lashes out at anyone who hurts his feeling by not fawning over him. His "negotiation" skills are obviously seriously lacking based on his track record in business and in politics.
Trump lost almost 200,000 manufacturing jobs during his first term, all while claiming he was bringing those jobs back. Yet people like you can't accept the facts, which makes it impossible to take you seriously.
Your take on Trump's tariffs not costing Americans money is hilarious. It's a Trump miracle! Trump's obsession with trade deficits is a fine example of his infantile understanding of the world economy. There's nothing wrong with a trade imbalance, as any economist will tell you. Trump's infantile brain insists on trying to make everything transactional, which is why he can't understand complex ideas or nuance. Luckily, his cult members are at the same thought level, so he can communicate in ways they understand.
Xi is licking his chops, he knows Trump is the easiest person on the planet to manipulate. Just tell him how great he is, or how much you love him, or that his crowds are really big and he's yours. Just ask Putin, he owns him.
It was Trump that backed out of the Iran nuclear deal, and it was not only Trump's foolishness of "negotiating" a deal without the Afghan government (an unbelievable diplomatic blunder) AND set the plans for our withdrawal. Of course, he didn't have the guts to actually get us out of Afghanistan, Biden had to do that.
The stock market craves stability, so the initial surge is from the knowledge that because the patriotic party that puts the country's well being before their own selfish interests lost (by less than Trump lost to Biden, by the way), there would be no attempted coup.
I expect the stock market to continue to rise as businesses look forward to more "deregulation" allowing them to destroy our environment, and more tax breaks so they can continue to enrich themselves at the expense of the middle class, who Trump will continue to screw in every way.
The real story of this election is how many millions of Americans stupidly voted against their own interests.
If Trump instigated an insurrection, why hasn't he been charged by now?
If Ole Joe is the CIC, why didn't he do a better job of orchestrating our withdrawal from Afghanistan?
If the southern border was secure under 'Ole Joe's watch, how did millions of illegal, unvetted aliens cross our border?
If you talk about a coup, how would you describe what the Democrat Party did to 'Ole Joe once it became undeniable that Joe's cheese had slipped off the cracker?
You still refuse to admit the obvious- Your Party lost because a majority of the Country rejects what it has been doing.
IF Trump instigated an insurrection? Why hasn't he been charged? He's under investigation, which is why he ran again, to get out from under all the charges that will stem from his crimes and treason. The January 6th commission proved beyond doubt of any reasonable person he's guilty, but of course Republican Congressional members will do nothing to offend their dear leader, even something so minor as to hold him accountable for treason and attempting to overthrow our government.
As everyone knows, the plans for our withdrawal from Afghanistan were drawn up under Trump. Do I wish Biden had changed them? Absolutely. Then again, Trump never had the stones to actually get us out, Biden did.
What I've said repeatedly about the southern border is that it's not open, as idiotic MAGA recitations of Trump's lies claimed.
Apparently you don't understand what the word coup means. It means a sudden, usually illegal, often violent change of government. You know, like when the sitting president refuses to relinquish power like a democracy, and instead attempts to override the democratic institutions and hold on to power after losing an election handily. It definitely DOES NOT apply to a party convincing its candidate to step aside for the good of the party and the country. This is just another example of the MAGA cult attempting to create a false equivalency.
At least the Democrats had the decency to get their candidate out of the race when it became apparent he was slipping. Trump's slipping even more than Biden, and lives in a fantasy world, and no one in the MAGA cult attempted to get him to pull out like he should have.
AGAIN, the Democrats are not my party. I have no party affiliation, and until Trump came along I held the Democrats in as much contempt as the Republicans. Trump is the greatest threat to American democracy since the Cold War, so I will continue to vote for Democrats until the GOP regains its footing, reinstitutes common decency, and becomes a serious party dealing with serious issues again. Which, by the way, we desperately need them to be, as having only one party as an option is not healthy for democracy. Until Trump and his ilk are repudiated, I will not vote for any Republican. If a Republican candidate repudiates Trump publicly I will consider voting for them, but not until.
The country didn't vote against what Democrats ARE doing, it voted against what they THINK Democrats are doing, which is a completely different thing. Does the party have challenges? Sure. Did the Republicans after 2020? Absolutely. Did they change anything? No, and here they are four years later back in the White House with a very similar win to Biden's in 2020. Let's not get carried away with one presidential election. Even after taking a beating in the 2018's midterms, losing the White House in 2020, and underperforming in 2022 midterms the Republicans didn't alter course and 2024 finds them back in the winner's column.
But don't worry, all the folks that voted for Trump will have huge regrets down the road. It's just a shame you're taking the rest of us down the drain with you.
