To those who oppose impeachment because we need “unity”: The time for unity was in accepting the results of a fair and secure election. Those who persisted in the lie that the vote was “stolen” pedaled disunity. Those who rejected the decisions of the courts not to overturn an election in the absence of evidence perpetuated disunity. Those who incited a mob to march to Congress to interfere with the constitutionally-mandated report of the certified electoral votes not only furthered the disunity but encouraged insurrection.
First of all, it is our Right as Americans to question whatever we find to be incongruous with what we believe to be lawful or unjust. There is nothing wrong with that. In fact, not to question our elected officials would be a huge departure from what makes us different from most other countries. So please, spare us the false outrage just because it is aimed at your Party. Secondly, nowhere in President Trump’s speech did he call for an insurrection or takeover of the Capitol. Read the transcript or listen to the entire video in its context. That is just a false narrative that the Left and its co-conspirators, the Media have been propagating to achieve their own ends and advance their agenda. Asking people to fight for what they believe in or encouraging peaceful protests is not wrong, or irresponsible, or morally unethical. It is our unfettered right as Americans to exercise our 1st Amendment Rights. Whether you agree or disagree with what I believe, you, and I, have the right to believe whatever we want. This attempt by the Democrats and some anti-Trump Republicans to silence the opposition will fail miserably in the SCOTUS when challenged. Assigning moral superiority to one political Party over another is a recipe for disaster. Likewise, breaking every rule/law we have in the pursuit of this outlandish rationale to Impeach a former President is the height of absurdity and smacks of political retribution, not Unity. What you seem to be calling for are acquiescence, subjugation, and conformity. Anything less to you is sedition. Not very unifying language and certainly, not very American. Where did you get your law degree? You should know this stuff… Skokie v. NSPA
You are conflating a lot of different things. I was on a chapter board of the ACLU when we were involved in Skokie and upholding the right to peacefully protest, which I still uphold. Nobody is trying to silence teh opposition. But the law does not allow all speech, including that which incites insurrection. I watched teh entirety of Trump's speech, including the words of the other people on the platform. Further, I closely watched his speech and actions after the election was called, including after every state certified the votes, teh electors met and certified the votes, and teh electoral ballots were taken to the Capitol for final county. He continually, and without evidence, said that there was widespread fraud, that the election was rigged, and that he had actually won by a landslide. He tried to get the GA Secretary of State to "find" 11,800 votes for him to change the thrice counted votes. I actually read all of the court decisions dealing with the frivolous lawsuits filed in an attempt to subvert the will of the people. I served as a credentialed poll watcher in Carroll County (in Moultonborough for the preprocessing and in Ossipee on election day) and have been trained in election law since the 2008 Presidential election, so I have a good background in how elections are run. Taken in context, the former president's words on January 6th incited the people he called to come to D.C. to go to the Capitol and fight to prevent the election from being stolen. Read the statute on sedition. He clearly incited sedition. While the violent mob was inside the Capitol, disrupting the lawful work of the joint session to count the certified electoral ballots, Trump was in the White House [despite his statement that he would go with them] watching on TV. He did not respond to calls, even from his own vice president, to send help. He is lucky more people didn't die. Everyone can believe what he or she wants and peacefully protest. They can ask questions. They can't interfere with teh results of a lawful election. When a mob chooses to believe a manifest lie or use it as an excuse to get what they want AND act upon that to breach the Capitol, do violence, damage and defile federal property, and halt the business of Congress, it is illegal and it is wrong. It is not free speech, and it is not protected conduct. And SCOTUS, if a case gets there, will make that clear. If you really are a veteran, you should be ashamed to violate the oath taken to protect America from all enemies, foreign and domestic. Don't preach at me. I am consistent in supporting Constitutional values and the rule of law.

"I am consistent in supporting Constitutional values and the rule of law."
The Left always says that until they don't. Or they disagree with you.
Funny how that works...
I am not "the Left," and you don't know me. Funny that you paint other people with a very broad brush.
