In preparation for the Tuesday, Dec. 23, Bartlett School Board meeting, I watched the most recent Valley Vision recording and was struck to see a community member told she did not have the right to speak about why Josiah Bartlett Elementary School lost yet another school nurse.

While losing the nurse, in and of itself, was not surprising — JBES has had difficulty finding and retaining qualified teachers and staff over the past few years — what was surprising was that a citizen’s protected free speech was cut off mid-sentence. The individual was told she “cannot talk about individual personnel issues,” which neutered the importance of what this parent, taxpaying resident and concerned citizen was trying to convey.
