Recently we attended a Neil Diamond tribute concert at the Colonial Theatre in Laconia which has been brought back to life by a close family friend who was mayor of Laconia, and co-founder of The Laconia Daily Sun. Ed Engler was responsible for the resurrection of the auditorium that now bears his name and we were looking forward to see how the final restoration looked after having seen it during reconstruction, and perhaps hear how well its acoustics endured.
When the band started playing it was clear that acoustics be damned as hundreds of watts of amplification filled every crevice and crack of the old theater in stark contrast to the Vaudeville shows that likely filled the stage when this beautiful theater was new. We left at intermission.
