My column from June 9 focused only on the relationship of marijuana legalization and crime. There are other factors to be considered when looking at the question of marijuana legalization. I am not advocating marijuana use but question its criminalization, especially in comparison to the legality of alcohol.

Prohibition of marijuana has led to a black market dominated by criminal organizations and contributed to the massive growth of America’s incarcerated population. In spite of this prohibition, millions of people use marijuana. Prohibition of marijuana has not worked any better than prohibition of alcohol in the past.
