The message is clear: Fryeburg citizens do not approve of Nestle’s plastic bottle plant, nor do we believe that a tax incentive for businesses to locate or expand atop our aquifer is prudent or necessary. Or was it clear?
Discussion between members of the airport authority and the board of selectmen on Oct. 26 seems to suggest there might be a way around the vote of the people. Alternative uses of the land on and around the airport soundly rejected by the citizens is now up for lease — to whom? The board of selectmen confirmed that the 40-year lease agreement was only for the footprint of a jet hangar but did not confirm the use of that space. It is still unclear what will be built there and there was no discussion about whether a hangar for private jets should be funded with government loans.
