To the editor:

In 1969, when I graduated from college, $1 million was considered to be a lot of money — the equivalent of over $9 million today. Families who accumulated that level of wealth were considered to be rich. Of course, homes in New Hampshire back then were selling for an average of $16,000, gas cost 35 cents per gallon, a new Ford Mustang, one of my favorite cars ever, listed for $2,600 and you could get an education at Dartmouth for $5,704 per academic year.
