A man was punched and beaten in the head with a baseball bat in Albany this fall and now two men are facing assault charges. Prosecutors said Robert Laverty was slugged by Nicholas Emery, 24, of Albany, and slammed repeatedly with a bat by Benjamin Hawthorne, 25.Hawthorne, who was jailed after the September fight and is facing multiple felony indictments, allegedly hit Laverty in the head, torso and arm.Emery is charged with second-degree assault. Hawthorne is charged with second-degree assault and reckless conduct. They were scheduled to enter pleas in court on Jan. 23.
