My 40 plus years of refurbishing, renovating and resurrecting houses has rendered me a seasoned employer of trade professionals. As such I will share with those homeowners more intrepid and considering embarking on a building project some of the DOs and DON'Ts I've garnered in the process.

The Sun is a great place to start when selecting a general contractor or trade professional. I've also often relied on word of mouth, and do recommend asking friends and family about their experiences and the quality of the finished product. There was a point in time I'd have encouraged meeting with at least three, but in today's market there's a dearth of laborers such that you may need to latch onto anyone who returns your phone call.
