CONWAY — Selectmen are moving forward with a plan to reduce traffic congestion issues in the area of First Bridge, where canoeists and kayakers launch. A vote Tuesday was a preliminary step and selectmen will discuss a more detailed plan at their next meeting.

For years, the livery companies unloaded paddlers and canoes on the west bank of First Bridge in a pullout on the southwest side of the road. The North Conway Water Precinct closed that access point last year because officials were worried they wouldn't be able to get through the congestion to inspect infrastructure beyond the pullout.
