CONWAY — Due to staffing and budgeting concerns, Conway selectmen at their Jan. 7 meeting “iced” plans to open the town’s outdoor rink in North Conway’s Schouler Park this winter — and possibly for good.

After three consecutive years of just seven days of use, due to warm weather, the rink has been an iffy proposition.

Tragic. Tradition once more takes a hit. How much effort was put into publicizing the rink supervisor position was open? Skating in Schouler Park had a “good feeling” that cannot be measured in dollars and cents, and made a statement about a valley village that people treasured.

An excellent example where the best solution is not government.

This is what happens when a town becomes full of democrats

And we put another nail in the valley coffin.

Isn't it wonderful how things that are what make us a quaint village just keep disappearing.

But we keep packing em' in. Just like the big cities none of us want to live in. Did anyone think that maybe one of the hotels that are exploiting our village should step up and staff and run the rink ? Or how about the STR association ? They want to milk us for all they can. Couldn't they step up ? Wouldn't it be another tourist attraction ? Something to bring more people to the valley ? Isn't that what they want ? Its just ashamed how fast our valkey is deteriorating, and noone seems to be able to do anything about it, not even the selectmen we voted in to represent us, and keep our valley the way we want it...
