Frank Moffatt likes young people and has a passion for education a natural fit for the New Hampshire School Board's Association as one its directors. The Glen resident recently accepted the nomination earlier this summer and joins Conway's Rebecca Moore as the second voice in Concord from the Mount Washington Valley.Moffatt, who has served on the Bartlett School board for the past six years and for the past three has been the chairperson of the Career and Technical Advisory which oversees the career and technical center at Kennett High School, called it an honor and gladly accepted a term on the board."I look at it as an honor and a compliment to my ability to get along with people and get things done," Moffatt said. "The important thing for me is that it allows me to be a better and much more effective local member of my boards. It gets me interacting around the state and I'm able to gleam information and ideas from other folks and bring them back to the valley. It helps provide another voice for the North Country."The directors hold four quarterly meetings a year, plus they assigned to various committees (three membership, service and outreach and three study committees) to look at various things from testing standards to school programs. Most of the committee work is conducted through conference calls and through the use of computers."I was pleased and proud they would even think about me," Moffatt said."I'm thrilled to have Frank on board," Moore said. "He's great and brings such knowledge and passion to the issues.""I think Frank brings a fresh voice and a wealth of experience to the directors," Ted Comstock, president of the NH School Boards Association, said. "Rebecca has been with us for several years now. She's just been named as second vice president of the board. She's working her way up the leadership ladder."Comstock explained the directors are a group of non-paid school board members from across the Granite State. There are 18 on the board. The NHSBA is a nonprofit organization based in Concord. "Our current membership is good," Comstock said. "There are 175 school boards in the state and 165 of those are our members. Our role is that of a service and an advisory board throughout the state. We provide information on policy, training, labor relations and anything a local school board is confronted with. We are a service to assist them.""To me be on the board it gives me the opportunity to get more involved and to be able to contribute and find solutions to problems," Moore said. "Advocacy is important to me. The goal for me has always been to bring state education issues to the North Country. It's so important for the North Country to become more of a player on educational issues." Moffatt was asked to fill out the remainder of a three-year term, which expires next month, and then his name will be formally submitted for a two-year term according to Comstock. The NHSBA's motto is "a passion for kids and fairness and desire to advocate for local communities."To learn more about the school board association, log onto www.nhsba.org
