JACKSON — When it comes to snow sculpting, practitioners of the chilly art will tell you it’s a bit like that old story attributed to Renaissance sculptor Michelangelo — when asked about the difficulties he encountered in creating his marble masterpiece, David, he supposedly said: “It is easy. You just chip away the stone that doesn’t look like David.”

Today and Sunday, at the base of Black Mountain in Jackson, 13 teams from across the Northeast are creating their own masterpieces in snow, participating in the 19th New Hampshire Sanctioned and Jackson Invitational Snow Sculpting Competition.
