CONWAY — It was hardly a walk in the park for planning board members during a site visit to the Birchmont Resort & Spa in North Conway last Thursday. Following the tour led by Jones & Beach Engineers’ Ian MacKinnon, selectmen’s representative to the Conway Planning Board Steve Porter called the owner’s plan to build 100 housing units on the hotel property “overdeveloped.”

Birchmont owner Ashok Patel had invited board members and other town officials to the site visit. With site maps in hand, the group of 17 people included Town Planner Ryan O’Connor, Town Engineer Jim Bandera, planning board chair Ben Colbath, Porter, planning board members Eliza Grant and Bill Barbin and alternates Christopher Yarworth and Nat Lucy. Also joining them were abutters Don Jones and Beth and Dave Dyson, project manager Rick Young and Kate Richardson of Shawn Bergeron Technical Services.
