OSSIPEE — Jackson murder suspect Brandon Mitchell filed a notice Wednesday of his intent to plead guilty to second-degree murder rather than going through an 11-day trial. Mitchell, 23, is being held at the county jail. He was indicted in February in connection with the shooting death of his girlfriend, Esmae Doucette, 23, in November of 2022 at the Dana Place Apartments in Jackson.

The notice of intent to plead guilty says that Mitchell is making a capped plea to second-degree murder. The term of the plea is he is willing to serve 35 years in prison but he could ask for less time.
