Ballots are counted in Fryeburg, Maine, on Thursday night. The town used paper ballots as the company that programs state ballot machines wasn’t able to accommodate the vote. (DAYMOND STEER PHOTO)

FRYEBURG, Maine — Proposals to allow the town's selectmen to sell land at the Eastern Slope Regional Airport and to put a tax increment financing district in the industrial area failed by wide margins at the polls Thursday.

Bottled water giant Poland Spring had hoped to capitalize on both, with representatives confirming that it was hoping to buy 100 acres from the airport, calling it a "necessary step" for building a proposed bottling plant in Fryeburg.
