CONWAY — Thanks to the quick response of an off-duty Conway Village firefighter, an exterior siding fire believed to have been caused by a contractor’s heater was quickly extinguished Thursday morning on the western corner of the flood-damaged lower level of the Conway Village Congregational Church.

The damage was minor thanks to the prompt efforts of firefighter Philip Mccaffrey, who works at the nearby Conway Elementary School as a maintenance man and noticed the fire on the exterior of the building while at work, according to Conway Village Fire Chief Phil Remington.
