PINKHAM NOTCH — As is often the case with anything having to do with Mount Washington, Saturday’s 2018 Tuckerman Inferno was a battle against the elements, challenging solo competitors and teams to overcome gusty headwinds on the cycling part of the race in Pinkham Notch and firm “Eastern powder” conditions on the Sherburne trail for the final ski descent from the U.S. Forest Service’s Hermit Lake shelter.

But then, no one ever said the Inferno would be easy.
