CONWAY — After town officials received complaints from residents that Massachusetts people were parking on Thompson Road in North Conway, selectmen decided to post it with "no parking" signs.
Selectmen's chair David Weathers brought up the issue at Tuesday's meeting, saying he had received a call from Conservation Commission Chairman Rob Adair that people were parking in the road.
As a local, this isn't right. How about we have parking passes for these trailheads (and others) available for people in the area to purchase, people who pay taxes, take the pay cut associated with living here, and don't tailgate at trailheads? These passes would be available at a reasonable price ($35/year) to people living permanently in any of the MWV towns (Bartlett, Albany, Tamworth, Madison, Conway, Fryeburg, Brownfield). I use that trailhead often and the trails themselves are never packed- it's mostly the mountain bike crowd that is filling up the parking. Perhaps the Mountain Bike Club (NEMBA) should look into purchasing a parking area for their fans, so they don't ruin local spots. There is only space for maybe 3-4 vehicles "legally" now. Frustrating.
This really hurts. Some go hiking, some walking, and some biking . I am local, I stay away on weekends. Mid week I sometimes have to park on the shoulder. When in the woods I rarely see humans
