CONWAY — A lawsuit filed by the Mt. Washington Valley Association for Responsible Vacation Rentals against the town has prevented the selectmen from putting the finishing touches on their rental inspection and certification program.
In July, prior to the lawsuit being filed, Zoning Enforcement Officer Nicholas DeVito told the Sun that the next step is to hold two public hearings regarding the fine schedule for infractions. The first letter of violation could go out. By state law, fines could be up to $1,000 per occurrence.
Interesting the way the town emphasized tha voters “overwhelmingly approved it”. Fact is, if the actual property owners (who overwhelmingly fund the town) were allowed to vote it would have overwhelmingly failed. The town sold voters a phony premise that renter safety needed this ordinance while hypocritically leaving out residents homes. Locals can’t simply stomp on property rights provided by State Law.
