UPDATE (5/04/2026 at 1:10 p.m. ET): Rudy Giuliani was hospitalized to treat pneumonia on May 3, the symptoms of which were worsened by a condition called restrictive airway disease.

Giuliani was hospitalized on Sunday, according to spokesperson Ted Goodman. Today, Goodman revealed the nature of his condition, saying that the former New York City mayor’s pneumonia was worsened by the respiratory condition. Goodman said that Giuliani developed restrictive airway disease due to toxin exposure on September 11, 2001.
