Bridgton Highlands celebrated its 100th year with a golf and tennis event on Saturday, Aug. 1. The mixed doubles draw featured a full field of 16 teams and a nice blend of members and guests. A special ribbon cutting ceremony set the stage to celebrate the club’s second pro-clay court featuring Beverly Chalmers and Rick Siegrist and bagpipes acting as the soundtrack.
In the main draw, Mill and Katie Brown battled through Maya Milic and David Chaffee 9-7, to book a place in the final where they would face off against Carolyn Wachnicki and Mike Coleman, who defeated Kasey Johnson and Parker Normann. Mill and Katie got off to a quick start, breaking Coleman’s serve but he and Carolyn bounced back to get back on even terms. While both teams had their share of entertaining points, Mike and Carolyn were able to clinch the title 8-5.
