The Cook Memorial Library will present an evening of mountain rescue stories on Wednesday, Oct. 17, at 6:30 p.m. at the Unitarian Universalist Fellowship of the Eastern Slopes Meetinghouse in Tamworth Village. This is a One Book One Valley program sponsored by the library. Stories include: “The Backside of the Storm” told by Mountain Rescue Service team leader Joe Lentini; “Voices from the Ice and Snow,” a retelling of Ty Gagne’s book “Where You’ll Find Me” in four parts, adapted and performed by Margo Mallar, Annie Provenzano, Raetha Stoddard, Terry Leavitt and Polly Mahoney, with music by Peg Loughran; and “So thankful to be here today,” Amy Baker’s account of being rescued on Mount Washington last January.
Discussions on Gagne’s “Where You’ll Find Me,” the subject book of this year’s One Book, One Valley have taken place at several local libraries. The remaining venues are Cook Memorial Library on Oct. 15 at 10.30 a.m.; Madison Library on Oct. 23 at 7 p.m.; Freedom Public Library on Oct. 29 at 10:30 a.m. For more information, see Cook Memorial Library’s website. The meet-the-author event is at Kennett High School at 409 Eagles Way in North Conway on Oct. 25 at 7 p.m. Find out more at onebookonevalley.org or facebook.com/onebookone valley.
