While out shoving the snow around with the plow this week, my mind wandered as it always does amid the repetitive “drive, drop plow, raise plow, reverse” pattern that is the most monotonous of seasonal chores.
In an effort for my mood to match the spirit of the holidays, I tuned the FM radio to a 24/7 Christmas music station, and begin to quietly accompany Andy Williams’ familiar voice. The more songs that are played, the more I can’t help but wonder why some are taken for holiday tunes, and not just plain winter songs. Maybe I’m reading too much into it, but “Let it Snow” and “Frosty the Snowman” don’t say a thing about Santa, presents or a manger. My old trusty plow partner and 9-year-old Bernese Mountain Dog, Griffin, joins me for the entertainment of the ride, and definitely not conversation.
