TAMWORTH — Polymath artists Juno Lamb and Jack Mauch will be presenting a program on making mini-crankies, or panoramas, on Saturday, Feb. 9, from 1 to 4 p.m. at the Cook Memorial Library in Tamworth.

Crankies are an early form of moving picture, popular in the 19th century and experiencing a revival now. Long scrolls of paper or fabric are rolled around one spindle and then cranked onto another inside a box or frame or proscenium of sorts, revealing image by image the story drawn, painted, collaged or stitched onto the textile. Often they are accompanied by spoken words, song or music.
