Elizabeth Ann (Betty Ann) Samson, age 73, passed away unexpectedly on Aug. 10, 2026 at her home in Maybrook, N.Y. Betty Ann had blessedly just enjoyed a remarkably joyous weekend with most of her entire family together — children, spouses and grandchildren. She and her husband were planning their return trip to Maine.
Betty Ann was born on Sept. 30, 1952, in Portland, Maine, to Elizabeth Hodges Stearns and Eckley Davis Stearns. She spent the first two years of her life in Center Lovell, Maine, and then her parents bought a home in Fryeburg, Maine, so the children would be able to attend the Fryeburg schools. From that point on, Betty Ann was a “summer” resident of Center Lovell where her family rented housekeeping cottages on Lake Kezar. In 1970, she graduated from Fryeburg Academy in Fryeburg, Maine, and in 1974 from Hood College in Frederick, Md., with a degree in early childhood education.
