Moultonborough Historical Society has received a grant through New Hampshire Charitable Fund's Bald Peak Colony Community Fund to help with its restoration of the historic Lamprey House in Moultonborough Village. The society was active this past summer raising funds to restore the building, which has been home to some of the first families of Moultonborough. Moultons built the core of the house around 1820, Frenches remodeled and expanded it in the 1870s and Lampreys ran it as an inn from the 1920s into the 50s. Throughout all these changes and uses, the building has retained its basic integrity. The society hopes to refurbish the building for use as its museum, interpretive center and offices. This summer, the society removed the rotting remains of the old wrap-around porch and replaced it with a replica. This fall, Oxton Landscaping restored some of the basic landscaping, which will be enhanced next year. Plans are underway to install adequate parking for both the future museum and the historical society meetings at the adjacent town house. The funds raised this summer have been invested and will be used exclusively on restoration work to the Lamprey house. Moultonborough Historical Society meets at 7:30 p.m. the second Monday of each month at Mounltonborough Town House for a business meeting, educational program and refreshments. For information, contact Moultonborough Historical Society, P.O. Box 647, Moultonborough, N.H. 03254.
