Lawrence Avery Haney, who was born in Wolfeboro, son of Ralph and Hazel Haney, and lived his peaceful life in his Water Village family home of three generations, passed away on Friday, Nov. 24, 2006. Lawrence is survived by his wife, Becky (Locke) Haney; son Keith and his wife Ree, of Durham; daughter Patricia, of Manchester; sister Virginia and her husband, Roger Moody, of Wolfeboro; brother Glenn and his wife Marilyn Haney, of Wolfeboro; grandchildren Jennifer, Kelly and Melissa Haney of Durham, and Saoul and Shavaar Haney of Manchester; great-granddaughter Jeilyn of Manchester; and many nieces, nephews, and friends.Lawrence was known as the Bus Driver" for 43 years, caring for kids every school day for the Kennett and Governor Wentworth School Districts, many who kept in touch over the years. Lawrence received many awards over the years for his safe and consistent driving. A carpenter by trade, Lawrence worked for Wendell Thompson for many years. He was always proud of his short tour in the U.S. Marine Corps, and to see his son, daughter and grandchildren proudly serve also. Lawrence was also a Mason at the Ossipee Valley Lodge 74 for over 50 years.Lawrence was known for his delight in simple pleasures. Among them were tending his garden, watching for moose and other wildlife as they crossed his fields, quietly carving, and keeping the home fires burning. He was ever faithful to his family and friends. He was known as someone you could count on by all who knew him, including the schoolchildren who rode his bus, his neighbors and his family. He was greatly admired and loved by all who truly knew him and will always be remembered fondly.A memorial service will be held for Lawrence at 1 p.m. on Saturday, Dec. 2, at the Water Village Community Church.Donations in his memory may be made to the Visiting Nurses Association-Hospice of Southern Carroll County, 240 South Main Street, Wolfeboro, NH 03894 (phone (603)569-2729), or to American Cancer Society, NE Div., N.H., Gail Singer Memorial Building, 360 Route 101, Unit 8, Bedford, NH 03110 (phone (603)472-7093).
