CONWAY — The Carroll County Substance Misuse Prevention Network is hosting a community forum 6-9 p.m. on Thursday, May 8, at the Kennett High School Auditorium. A panel of experts, including Carroll County Attorney Robin Gordon, Lt. Chris Perley of the Conway Police Department and Dr. Kim Goodwin from Memorial Hospital, will discuss the ramifications of underage drinking.
New Hampshire ranks second in the United States for alcohol use among 12- to 20-year-olds. According to surveys conducted among Carroll County high school students last year, nearly 40 percent of students reported having at least one drink of alcohol in the past 30 days. Of those students more than one-third reported having obtained alcohol by someone giving it to them. In addition, nearly one-fourth of students reported engaging in binge drinking, or having more than five more drinks in a row within a couple of hours in the past 30 days while 15 percent of students reported having had their first drink (other than a few sips) before the age of 13.
